The English Montreal School Board is pleased to announce its continued achievement of the highest graduation success rate in the province. According to the latest statistics from the Ministère de l’Éducation du Québec, from the 2022-2023 academic year, the board's graduation rate stands at an impressive 95.9 percent, marking a significant increase from 92.7 percent in 2021-2022. While the majority of students graduated within five years, it's noteworthy that the Ministry allows for a two-year extension to ensure students have ample opportunities to earn their diplomas or obtain their initial qualifications.

The province-wide success rate, which includes both public and private school results, stands at 84.2 percent. Broken down further, the public system’s average is 81.7 percent, while for the private sector, the number is 93.5 percent.

“These results are particularly favorable considering that this cohort was affected by the pandemic,” said Chair Joe Ortona. “The province reinstated uniform exams in June 2022. It is reassuring to note that student achievement has remained stable in the courses required for graduation, and academically, COVID does not appear to have had a marked effect on these students. The board continues to prioritize meeting the needs of all students and closing gaps in learning where they exist. As for our schools, the exams are in full swing, and we are looking forward to seeing how our students fare.”

“We can take great pride in the fact that we exceeded the average of both public and private schools,” added EMSB Director General Nick Katalifos. “The pandemic years were   extremely challenging for all of us. Everyone rose to the occasion. The results stem from a collective effort—our teachers, in-school administrators, support staff, and professionals from all of the departments at the Board.”

EMSB Director of Educational Services Anna Sanalitro states that educators have never had to contend with the kind of challenges that the pandemic brought on. “Considering this, our achievements this year are truly remarkable,” she said. “Maintaining our academic standards while coming together as a community continues to be our focus moving forward.”
